The Triumph of Rosemary: a Memoir by Judge Marylin E. Atkins, chronicles her rise from being a foster child to enduring emotional and physical abuse by her adopted mother and a boyfriend, then sparking a racial and religious scandal with her interracial marriage to my father, a former Catholic priest who was 25 years older. Their loving, colorblind marriage lasted 24 years until my father died, and my mother became the longest-serving Chief Judge in the history of Detroit’s 36th District Court.
